Douglas Brook (Vishal)
Spiritual name Vishal – I started practicing yoga aged 23 with Eugenie Knox at The Dance of Life Yoga Studio. I was stunned to discover that through yoga I felt fully awake, alive and connected to the truth of life. My daily practice led to an apprenticeship with Eugenie and to teaching at the studio in the Iyengar method. I have been to Ashrams in India 9 times and I am a devotee of spiritual teacher and humanitarian Sri Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi or Amma.
At 28 I began studying and practicing Ashtanga Yoga with Greg and Tracy Cooper at the Ashtanga Yoga Centre of Melbourne. I have also learned from Rob Byrne, Graham Northfield, Mathew Sweeney, David Williams, Prem & Radha Carlisi (Yoga World Bali )and Deena Kingsberg.
I have been a regular teacher at Chunky Move and Lucy Guerin Dance Companies, Dance Arts United, Corporate Yoga and I am a Flow Yoga Instructor at Fitness First Australia trained by Power Living Australia Yoga. I have instructed on many Yoga retreats with the Dance of Life, at Yoga Fest Somers, with the Ashtanga Yoga Centre at Mission Beach and I have worked on Amma’s Australian and Indian Tours. I have been teaching Ashtanga Yoga for over 16 years. I aim to inspire students to develop a healing, uplifting practice that can support them in connecting mind and body to their higher self.
