Dates: Sat 2 May 2015 - 3 May 2015

Cost: AU$200

Saturday and Sunday 1 - 6pm (chai break included)

1. the basic principles of ayurveda
2. the importance of the doshas and their influence on the
    body, mind and emotions
3. the influence of emotions on the body
4. how to identify holding patterns
5. how to create balance in our being through balancing
    doshas to restore optimum health

Physical bodies are composed of the gross elements, each of which has its own unique characteristics.  When these elements are balanced and in harmony, the body is healthy. Through Ayurveda we learn ways to keep our life free from ailments and problems.  It teaches us not to interfere with our body by relying on external support.  Restoring health and harmony is the main purpose of this workshop.

There will be plenty of opportunity for questions and potentially addressing problems on the spot.

About Kumar
Kumar was born into a traditional Brahmin family in 1967 in Mysore. The earliest influence in his life was that of his grandfather, the late Pundit Narasimha Murthy - a well-known Ayurvedic physician in Mysore. Kumar spent a lot of time with his grandfather, and received some of his earliest lessons in Ayurveda from him. His grandfather later renounced the world and became a monk of the Hindu order.

Kumar first became known to students of Sri K Patthabi Jois in 1995, when he began giving them Ayurvedic treatments. At the time Guruji was still living and teaching in the shala in Lakshmipuram (Mysore).  Over the years, Kumar has befriended some of Guruji's earliest Western students, and has many stories of these early days. Residing just a few doors from the current Shala , Kumar has been teaching aspects of Ayurveda to yoga students there since 2001.

YOGA THERAPY - HOW DOES IT WORK?
Yoga therapy is distinct from other forms of conventional therapy in that it works to alleviate localised symptoms as well as addressing the causal and peripheral imbalances that would otherwise allow problems to re-occur.  It recognises the body and mind are interconnected through the agency of breath and there is a direct link between mental and physical states and the condition of the breath.

Long slow, steady yoga breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which creates a feeling of peacefulness (the 'relaxation response'), allowing for quicker healing.

Meditation techniques are used to calm the mind, remove anxiety and also to direct the attention to the injured area, for improved healing.  Modified yoga postures are used to encourage healing through increased blood, nerve, lymph and prana flow.

The student is trained to move anatomically correctly, working towards harmony with body, mind and breath.
