Teacher Training with Master Teacher Nicky Knoff - Foundation Intensive

About the workshop:

Teacher training with Nicky Knoff will be held at the Ashtanga Yoga Centre of Melbourne, Level 1,  110-112 Argyle Street, Fitzroy and will run from 8.15am - 5.30pm daily.

The Foundation Course
This Foundation Level course is based upon and is a continuation of the preceding Discovery Level course. This Foundation course has it own new syllabus and takes you further along the path as a yoga teacher.    

The three week Foundation course, combined with the one week (5 - day) Discovery course qualifies you for the international Yoga Alliance 200 hour registration. When you have successfully completed both courses you may register with the YA and professionally use the letters RYT200 after your name.

The Foundation Asana, Pranayama & Meditation syllabus consists of:  

• Earth & Sun Salutations 
• 4 Inverted Poses (heating) 
• 9 Standing Poses 
• 2 Arm Balancings 
• 7 Forward Bends 
• 5 Sitting Poses 
• 2 Abdominals 
• 3 Twists 
• 6 Backbends 
• 4 Inverted Poses (cooling) 
• Relaxation 
• 9 Pranayama 
• Breath focused Meditation  

The Anatomy & Physiology covers the basics of movement, muscles and bones and is taught with direct application to the yoga postures. The Philosophy looks at What Is Yoga, Ten Fundamental Principles of Yoga, In Praise of the Philosophical Life, Why Study Yoga, Philosophy, The Seven Steps of Psychospiritual Maturation, A Bird’s-Eye View of the History of Yoga, and Yoga Sutras Chanting.  

Combined with the Discovery syllabus, you now have enough information, knowledge and skills to teach yoga competently and successfully for many years to come.  

Your certification only allows you to teach what is specifically prescribed in this course. When you are ready to learn more and broaden your knowledge base, we have another 7 Levels of Teacher Training waiting.  

Students who do not wish to teach may also attend the course to intensively deepen their practice and grow their yoga knowledge.  You will receive a Foundation Asana and Pranayama Manual and a Foundation Teaching Certificate (if you pass the course).

 Sat 4th and Sun 5th of March 2017.

 A 10-hour workshop with 4 classes of 2.5 hours. First class 8am to 10.30am. Second class from 12- 2.30pm each day.

Saturday morning: Technical Talk-through of asana

Asana is the bedrock from which all other yogic techniques arise. It forms the base from which success in higher yogic techniques can be integrated. However, without the technical finesse required often little benefit is gained. In this class Gregor will give a technical talk-through of many intricate, anatomical details of the majority of the postures of the Primary Series, while maintaining as much pace as possible. The focus is on entering and exiting the postures safely while understanding which actions will get us deep into the asanas without unnecessary energy expenditure.

 

Sunday morning: Kriya andPranayama

The day will conclude with Kriya and Pranayama. These are some of the most neglected but yet most powerful methods of yoga.Learn how to use pranayama to harmonize the doshas (humors of the body) and thus attain a state of health and balance as well as how to still the mind,enabling spiritual insight. The kriyas are predominantly methods of purification of the body. They support the work of postures and are especially important for people who live in large cities. We will focus on the correct performance of Nauli and Kapalabhati.

 

Afternoons: Sutra, chanting and meditation (on both days)

The Yoga Sutra is the operating manual of yoga.It is only when we understand the why’s and how’s of yoga that we will practice with confidence and beyond doubt. In this class we will chant selected stanzasin Sanskrit and a detailed commentary based on Gregor’s four decades of practice and study will be given. The commentary will retain the depth of the ancient treatises but will be fun, relatable and applicable to modern urban life. This is followed by a meditation section.Meditation is the method of bringing your mind into a receptive state? so that you can receive higher knowledge that is already there. Yogic meditation is a collection of scientific methods to bring about such awareness. To accelerate spiritual evolution yogic meditation employs many means amongst which the prime ones are mantra, chakra-visualization and Kundalini-raising techniques.
